Day 2: Alex Thompson

Today was a jam packed day meaning we all had to be ready for breakfast at half seven which did not go down well considering the late night we had yesterday. After having a quick breakfast, packing our bags and making our lunch for the day ahead we headed off for a quick tour of Reykjavik before heading to Thingvellir national park where the Eurasian plate and North American plate are moving apart creating a steep Rift Valley. After seeing some enormous fish and seeing the crisp clear spring waters including the second deepest lake in Iceland we went lava caving.

This was a great laugh, especially dressing up in the very "flattering" caving gear and hats. Our tour guide Orri told us some great stories about trolls and Icelandic Christmas celebrations. Deep down in the caves we turned if our lights so all we could hear was the dripping sound of the water falling from the rocks.

After a quick stop off and bite for lunch we went to see the geysers. The main one spouts out steam and water and it's a sight to marvel, the sulphur smell didn't go down well however.

Finally we went on a quick walk to see the great Gullfoss waterfall. It was absolutely huge and you certainly wouldn't want to get caught up in the waterfalls great currents, nor fall off the edge of the steep layers of rock. Many pictures later we headed back to the bus to head to our accommodation for the night. After a very tiring day we will all definitely be getting a good night sleeps tonight.
