After hitting the jack pot yesterday with the weather, this morning we woke up to sleet and later driving rain. However, once the breakfast waffles had been consumed, the clouds lifted and although the temperature was brisk, the view was brightening up.
Standing approximately 7km in front of two glacier snouts and at this point, the sheer scale of these features hadn't quite sunk in for the group. (It was only 0930!)
Arriving at the Jokulsarlon ice lagoon to have a look at the icebergs and where they calve from.
Getting into the duck boat to get onto the lagoon. Despite there being no rain and all being wrapped up, it really was very cold! It is very eerie floating between these silent masses that change in colour from blue to white.
Happy to be holding an ice cube that is estimated to be about 1000 years old.
Guess who?
I just love that duck boat. And don't Emily and Tom look so very happy, despite the cold? Unfortunately we cannot tell whether Miss Jackson is happy or not. We shall assume that she is, although VERY cold.
ReplyDeleteSafe journey back, everyone! It seems you're in Manchester five hours before me tomorrow.
