Day 3: Jessica McNickle

Today was the busiest day so far. We woke up early in our small but cosy Cabins. We got ready and walked over to the hotel for breakfast in the cold and frosty weather. After eating our breakfast and making our sandwiches ready for the day ahead of us we, after a short drive in the bus we arrived at our destination, Seljandafos waterfall. We walked around the waterfall while taking in the beautiful views. Next we drove to the visitor centre were we browsed in the gift shop and watched a fascinating documentary about the eruption in 2010. We were then able to ask the women who witnessed the eruption questions and she gave us some excellent facts and information about her experience. After a quick walk to see near the farm,we moved onto another waterfall which we got the chance to climb 420 stairs which was painful.  We managed to get some amazing photos of the waterfall and a double rainbow a memory we will not forget. Next we moved on to the last part of our day which was by far the most extraordinary. We got kitted up with a harness, crampons and were given an ice axe each. We then set off walking for half hour to the glacier. After being taught how to use our equipment we set off on our journey down onto the glacier. We began striding across the ice in learning interesting facts about the newly formed features. We had a great opportunity to hack away at the ice letting off steam. We then entered a cave which may disappear at any time so we were lucky that our great guide gave us the amazing experience to see this and I'm sure we all feel so privileged to have been able to see it first hand. After walking on the glacier for two hours, we became very tired but were fascinated at all the new things we introduced to. After taking many pictures and having pictures taken, our adventure came to an end and we headed our the glacier to take all our equipment off. Even though it was sad for it to come to an end most of us were glad of the opportunity to sit down. We then waited for our tour guide who had dropped his phone down the glacier to retrieve it back- which he did. Lastly we all got back onto the bus and drove back to the hotel where we got a well deserved dinner to end our fabulous day.
