As the evenings draw on, Mr Dalton likes to go out every half an hour and check the northern light status around the hotel. This little routine of his mostly goes unnoticed until he comes running back into the room and telling us all to get our shoes and coats on NOW! NOW! NOW!
We all went out and there before us were the northern lights, glowing and dancing across the skies before our very eyes. Again, being able to witness the pupils as they processed exactly what they were looking at before their very eyes, was a great privilege.
It is very hard to get photos unless you have a tripod, and thankfully, our guide David had just that! The photos in this post are from the sky tonight.
An extra bonus for me tonight was Enoch Lee: he asked me what the Milky Way was and once I had told him it was more than just a chocolate bar, we both looked up into the sky and saw a shooting star! I don't know who squealed more loudly.
A truly spectacular end to a super day.
I hope you can all get access to the photos!
Brilliant! Truly amazing! Certainly worth going out for. Special thanks to Mr. Dalton for his scouting mission, David for the wonderful photos and Miss Jackson for sharing the excitement with us. All deserve a Milky Way.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more - been waiting for as long as I've been interested in astronomy to see the aurora from this country! Take a closer look at photos 7 and 8! There's a tall tree to the right hand side of the picture. Above it and to the left is a streak of light, which is possibly part of a meteor trail! Depending on the timing may even be the one you saw! It could be a satellite, but as it does not appear on any of the other photos, that suggests it is something short-lived!
